Yesterday, 29 December, a person has broken through a gate at Hannover Airport (HAJ/EDDV). The airport was placed on lockdown.
Saturday, at 14:30UTC, a man under the influence of drugs drove a car through a gate and onto the tarmac of Hanover Airport (HAJ/EDDV). He drove in a silver BMW with Polish license plate and followed a plane from Greece’s Aegean Airlines (A3/AEE) after it had landed from Athens (ATH/LGAV). The car was stopped by federal police and the driver was detained. The incident shut down flights for almost five hours amid concern it was terrorism related.
Hanover police said the driver had tested positive for cocaine and amphetamines. The car was searched and no dangerous items were found. The incident comes as authorities tightened security before Christmas at some airports after receiving intelligence about a possible terror attack. Other tips involved possible extremists surveilling German airports.
